A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
Printing House, printshop, publishers:

1. apud (prep. + acc.), q.v.; at the place of business, establishment or shop of (a tradesman, etc.);

- apud Balthasarem et Ioannem Moretos fratres = “at the shop of Balthasar and Joannes Moretus, brothers” (Maxwell 1998).

2. Officina,-ae (s.f.I), q.v., of bookshops, the term may apply to both the manufacture of books as well as their sale;

- ex officina Gulielmi Young, bibliopolae, no. 52 Secund-Platea, angulo Castaneae-Plateae = “from the shop of William Young, bookseller, 52 Second Street, on the corner of Castanea Street” (Maxwell 1998).

- expletum est hoc opusculum & ex officina emissum in Parisiorum academia = this little work was completed and published from the printshop in the Parisian academy (Maxwell 1998).

3. Tyographeum,-ei (s.n.II), abl.sg. typographeo: a printing (shop), a printing house, press; see ‘printing house.’

4. Typographia,-ae (s.f.I): > Gk. typos + graphia, the (art or practice of) printing, typography; a (printing) press; a press (printing shop);

- ex typographia B. Paperini, from the printshop of Bernard Paperini.

- PARISIIS, E TYPOGRAPHIA REGIA (Tourn.), at Paris, from the Royal Press.

5. plural of typus,-i (s.m.II), q.v.: see typi,-orum (pl.m.II);

- Londini: Typis J. E. TAYLOR ET SOC., LITTLE QUEEN STREET, Holborn (B&H), at London [Londinum,-i (s.n.II)]: at the printing house [typi] J. E. TAYLOR [nom.sg.] and Associates [socii, nom.pl.], LITTLE QUEEN STREET, Holborn.
